Most
arbitration services fall into two categories. First, there
are the large ADR firms that often employ retired federal
or state appellate judges. There are also national organizations
that let the parties choose an arbitrator (usually a lawyer)
from a list. Such arbitration is appropriate for some disputes,
but these organizations may charge $300 to $500 per hour for
the arbitrator's services, plus administrative fees. Moreover,
their arbitration rules may be cumbersome.
At
the other end of the spectrum are the online arbitration services.
Some promise to decide complex disputes for a few hundred
dollars. The parties receive a binding arbitration decision,
but the person making that decision may have had no training
in law or may not have been able to thoroughly study the materials
the parties submitted because these services generally require
a high volume of disputes to compensate for the low cost.
We
offer a third alternative. Mr. Cohen, a former Municipal Judge
and attorney with 27 years of experience, charges $225.00
per hour for his services, with a cap of $1,800.00 per day,
plus out of pocket costs. There are no administrative fees.
Mr. Cohen offers a flexible approach to arbitration, providing
services on-site, at our offices, through telephonic hearings,
or entirely online. When Mr. Cohen makes a decision all parties
receive a signed arbitration award explaining his findings
and conclusions in plain English. A party may register and
enforce the award in any court with jurisdiction.
RMAS
has adopted arbitration rules that are simple, fair, and flexible.
